Speech Assessment Process

Please follow the instructions as below.  Your recordings are sent to SpeechSchool.TV for analysis by one of our experienced voice coaches who will provide you a graded report by return email within 3-5 working days.

STEP 1: PLUG IN YOUR MICROPHONE HEADSET

Once the recorder has loaded, click the
red button [●] when ready to begin recording.  Do not stop or save the file until you have COMPLETED Tests A, B & C below:

TEST A: PRONUNCIATION & DICTION

Please tell us briefly why you have enrolled in a SpeechSchool.TV program and what is your language background.

Now read the following lines directly into the microphone:

Six thick thistle sticks
She sells sea shells on the sea shore
Send the sound with a little hiss, lips quite round and teeth like this

Ida is frightened of spiders
They might be big bisons or tigers!

TEST B: PASSAGE READING

Read the following lines directly into the microphone:

When the sunlight strikes raindrops in the air they act as a prism and form a rainbow.
The rainbow is a division of white light into many beautiful colours.
These take the shape of a long round arch with its path high above, and its two ends apparently beyond the horizon.  
There is according to legend a boiling pot of gold at one end.   People look but no one ever finds it.
When a man looks for something beyond his reach,
his friends say he is looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Do not stop recording, move onto Test C below:
TEST C: IMPROMPTU SPEAKING

Accent Program learners do this test below:

Select ONE of the following topics and give a short talk about it (1 to 2 minutes) directly into the microphone (without prior preparation):

The most interesting thing that has happened to you this week

What you would like to do this coming weekend

A challenge you have overcome this week

The happiest moment you have experienced this week


Master Communicator learners do this test below:

Give a short talk (2 to 3 minutes) directly into the microphone and using techniques as learned in the Master Communicator program on:

● A subject or experience that has effected or impacted upon any aspect of your life recently


Advanced learners (all programs) OPTIONAL task (1 to 2 minutes):

● Imagine a terrible situation:  eg. Your boss is about to fire you.  Your best client is going to leave you.  You’re being kicked out of your college.  Now try to explain why this should not happen.

STEP 3: SAVE THE RECORDING

Click the 'SAVE' button.  Save file as your name, eg. JamesYang.prm
(Select where you would like the file to be saved on your hard drive, as this is the copy of the assessment for your records)


STEP 4: SEND US THE RECORDING

Click on the 'SEND ASSESSMENT' button below to email us your recording.  Attach the recorded file (eg. JamesYang.prm) to your email from the saved location in Step 3.
